Alex Makes Art Needle Felting Workshop

Alex Makes Art Needle Felting Workshop

Please join us for a Needle Felting Succulent Workshop on Thursday, April 13 from 6:30-8:00PM at Greentail Table in Newton! Greentail Table will be hosting Alexandra Adamo of Alex Makes Art  for a Needle Felted Succulent Event, in honor of Earth Day and sustainable crafting! Together, we'll pay homage to a medium we both adore; wool.

Each participant will be felting a lush and colorful succulent plant. Alex has curated a selection of brightly colored pieces of  wool roving, 100%  wool felting mats that are reusable for craft breaks to come, and plenty of needles for rhythmic stabbing (yes, you read that right!). One of Greentail Table’s local ceramicists, Madeleine Hall-Arber will be providing custom made pots for housing the felted succulents. Each participant will leave the workshop with a completely handmade treasure for yourself or for gifting.

You can be looking forward to light refreshments and snacks as we create community and enjoy a night of skill building. Alex will chat about her English angora bunny, crafting with Gotland and Leicester longwool sheep, and will give a nod to her fibrous installation that will be going up for six months in the Linde Family Wing in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The first of it's kind!

This is event is limited to 15 participants on a first come, first served basis. Reserve your ticket for this Alex Makes Art x Greentail Table event for $85.00. Click here to register by adding to your cart and checking out or call the shop: 617-244-3510.

We are reserving a few spots on a sliding scale basis ($45-$75), first come, first served.  Please specify this request in an e-mail to Linda at cutomerservice@greentailtable.com. Let her know what you can pay and she will follow up with you on a case by case basis to confirm a spot. We are relying on the honor system in terms of need.

with Curio founder Claire Cheney
Wednesday July 29, 2020, 5:00 – 6:00 PM
Live via Zoom $40

In need of fresh ideas for your summer menus? Ready to learn simple ways to dramatically improve flavor? This class with Curio Spice Co. founder Claire Cheney is your ticket to inspiration!

Claire will virtually introduce you to the ways that spices can be used to marinate, grill and season foods (and drinks!) for your summer menu, helping expand your palate and celebrate summer – even this socially distanced one! She will demonstrate how certain spice blends can make grilled fish a weeknight option (as opposed to a complicated affair), how to create your own Caribbean inspired spice rub for veggies or meat, and finally two ways to make spiced-infused summer drinks (with or without booze).

After the class, Curio will follow-up with recipes and a special discount on your next purchase from Curio’s online shop.

Curio Spice Co. is a woman-owned, mission-driven spice business in Cambridge, MA. Founded by Claire Cheney in 2015, the company offers rare and direct-sourced spices — and a collection of unique, house-made spice blends. Quality, creativity, and the company’s dedication to community and customer service has earned it local and national notice. Curio Spice achieved B-Corporation Certification in 2019.

Newton Neighbors Helping Newton Neighbors Care Packages

Newton Neighbors Helping Newton Neighbors

DONATE A CARE PACKAGE WITH ENTERTAINMENT ITEMS & BOREDOM BUSTERS FOR A NEWTON SENIOR OR CHILD IN NEED!

SEND A MESSAGE OF HOPE

Forced inside by the Coronavirus pandemic, members of the Newton community are still finding ways to reach out to their neighbors and friends to share messages of hope. Children put teddy bears in windows and we see rainbows popping up across the city and sidewalk chalk messages encouraging people to stay strong and stay inside. There are more ways you can help! Donate a care package to a Newton resident in need!

WHO WOULD I BE HELPING?

While Newton has a reputation for being an affluent suburb, statistics show that 1 out of 8 households in our city survive on less than $25,000 in annual income and 11% of Newton schoolchildren live in poverty. Newton Neighbors Helping Newton Neighbors, a Facebook group that was formed to connect community members to support one another and share resources during the Coronavirus pandemic, is sponsoring an effort to provide entertainment care packages to residents living in Newton public housing. In particular, seniors who have been self-isolating and young children (ages 5 and under) who need to be entertained and are not currently served by the Newton Public Schools. These groups have the least access to ways to keep engaged during this difficult time.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

NNHNN is partnering with the Newton Housing Authority to distribute these care packages to those in need. The Newton Housing Authority provides a high standard of affordable housing to Newton’s diverse population of more than 1300 residents.

In partnership with a number of local retailers who are creating these entertainment-oriented care packages, NNHNN is connecting members of the community who want to donate them to Newton residents who are the most vulnerable during this difficult time. We see this as an opportunity for you to help those in need while also supporting beloved local businesses in the hopes that it will enable them to stay afloat while closed to physical business.

Participating local businesses include:

WHAT DO THE CARE PACKAGES INCLUDE?

Care packages for seniors include items such as adult activity books (coloring books, crossword puzzles, sudoku and trivia), embroidery and cross stitch kits as well as “cheer” items such as tea, honey and trinket dishes. Care packages for kids include items such as picture books, puzzles, games, art activities, educational toys and craft project kits.

HOW CAN I DONATE A CARE PACKAGE?

Care packages are $50 and can be purchased online by clicking on the link to the local business website. Your purchase will be delivered directly into the hands of a Newton senior or child living in Newton Public Housing. Join us to support our community and send a message of hope to a Newton resident in need!
